These methods are good to keep in mind when creating in any procedural software\, albeit Houdini\, Blender’s geometry nodes\, or inside the game engine itself. \nNicole Reiling is a budding 3d artist who began in the fine arts and accidentally changed her life when she touched a grass simulator at the science museum. Since then\, she has been fascinated with building 3d worlds. Nicole graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in the spring of 2026 with a major in 3D Animation and was the first student to complete the new Experimental Games minor. \n \nWebsite: nicolereiling.com \n \nAnnouncements & Plug My Thing\nAt the beginning of our in-person meetings\, we like to put a call out for game trailers\, demo reels\, and other short game development related announcements. Sometimes\, these are technical issues\, glitches resulting from code that doesn’t behave how we’d hoped. But what about when there are no issues and the game still isn’t…quite right? Wouldn’t it be nice if we could ask the game what needed to be done\, why it didn’t feel right? In this talk\, we argue that you can: the player isn’t merely consuming the game\, they are a *part* of it. Drawing from performance studies\, we explore how we co-create our games with our players\, and how a change in perspective might unlock new and better ways of designing. \n \nSpencer Everhart is a game designer and academic based in Cleveland Heights\, Ohio. He holds a BFA in Game Design from the Cleveland Institute of Art and is currently working toward an MFA in Visual Communication Design at Kent State University. A jack of all trades\, his interests lie in understanding the relationship between games and their players and how to create deeply meaningful experiences that players bring with them after the game ends. He specializes in user experience\, accessibility\, and rapid game prototyping. \n \nWebsite: https://sceverhart.wixsite.com/portfolioInstagram: instagram.com/escaliburnBluesky: escaliburn.bsky.socialTumblr: spencereverhart.tumblr.com \n \nAnnouncements & Plug My Thing\nAt the beginning of our in-person meetings\, we like to put a call out for game trailers\, demo reels\, and other short game development related announcements. SUMMARY:Co-Intelligence: The Next Competitive Advantage
DESCRIPTION:**Overview**\nCo-Intelligence: The Next Competitive Advantage\n*Why humans who learn to think with AI will outperform those who just use it* \n2026 marks the transition from AI as a tool to AI as a collaborator—a shift that requires moving beyond prompt-and-response interactions toward genuine cognitive partnerships that compound skill\, insight\, and impact over time. \nThis talk explores *Co-Intelligence*—a term popularized by [Ethan Mollick](https://www.linkedin.com/in/emollick/)\, and extended here into a practical framework for how individuals can think *with* AI rather than merely use it. Co-Intelligence is not about automation or shortcuts; it is about designing persistent\, learning partnerships where human judgment\, creativity\, and context combine with machine speed\, scale\, and pattern recognition to produce outcomes neither could achieve alone. \nThrough real-world examples—from developers and analysts to consultants and knowledge workers—we will examine what changes when AI becomes a collaborator: how workflows evolve\, how insight emerges faster\, and how capabilities begin to compound rather than reset with each task. We will also address the behavioral shifts required for true collaboration\, along with the common failure modes that keep people trapped in tool-mode\, including over-reliance\, cognitive offloading\, and false confidence. \nAttendees will leave with a practical Co-Intelligence stack they can apply immediately\, including methods for building persistent context\, frameworks for cognitive delegation\, and ways to measure augmented performance. More importantly\, attendees will see how professional value in an AI-driven world increasingly comes from building strong cognitive partnerships with AI—moving beyond simple tool use toward sustained\, amplified capability. \n**Agenda**\n6:00pm – 6:30pm: Networking – food & drinks\n6:30pm – 8:00pm: Presentation & discussion\n8:00pm: Networking at [Lake Monster Brewing](https://www.lakemonsterbrewing.com/) \n**Meet Our Featured Speaker**\n[Nick Roseth](https://www.linkedin.com/in/nickroseth/) explores how humans and intelligent systems think\, create\, and evolve together. With more than 25 years of experience at the intersection of business\, design\, and emerging technology\, he has helped startups and Fortune 500 organizations navigate transformation across industries including healthcare\, finance\, and construction—building everything from early digital platforms to immersive XR experiences and\, more recently\, Agentic AI and human-machine systems. As the founder of [Explore Design](https://explore.design/)\, he advises organizations on AI adoption through a distinctly human lens that integrates psychology\, behavioral design\, and strategic foresight\, with a focus on trust\, culture\, leadership\, and decision-making. His work centers on designing adaptive systems where humans and machines co-create rather than compete. Nick is passionate about the tech and entrepreneurship community\, a perspective he shares through speaking\, writing\, and advisory work\, including a [TEDx talk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIIcFPG4d5g) on technology and workforce transformation and the film [DocuMntary](https://documntary.com/). Follow Nick’s work on the [Adaptive Intelligence Substack](https://nickroseth.substack.com/). \n**Sponsors**\nThis event is sponsored by [Lab651](https://lab651.com/) & [Recursive Awesome](https://recursiveawesome.com/)

SUMMARY:MN VR and HCI Apr 2026: Mastering Space & Time
DESCRIPTION:MN VR and HCI monthly meeting for April 2026: David Mann – SpacetimeDB and XREAL One Pro SDK\n\n\nSpacetimeDB is a new approach to scalable networking for both VR and general game projects. Bonus quick overview of the XREAL One Pro glasses SDK. \n \nMastering Space & Time – David Mann \nUsing Dungeonpunk Online as the case study\, David Mann will walk through the multiplayer architecture he has been building\, with a focus on how SpacetimeDB\, Unity\, modern authentication flows\, and live simulation fit together in practice. As part of that work\, he built dungeonpunk.dev\, a custom authorization portal created out of necessity to handle identity\, token exchange\, and secure game connectivity. The talk focuses on the design decisions\, integration challenges\, and tradeoffs involved in keeping the overall system simple\, maintainable\, and realistic to operate as a team of one. \nThe presentation will also include a short addendum on the XREAL One Pro glasses\, covering what David found while attempting to integrate them into a real game project. It will examine the current state of the tooling\, the developer ecosystem\, and the practical realities. \nDavid Mann is an independent developer and craftsman of fine technology with experience across games\, web development\, DevOps\, VR\, and real-time multiplayer systems. He uses that broad skill set to build custom systems spanning product\, infrastructure\, and operations. \n \nSchedule: \n\n6:30 Social and setup\n7:00 Kickoff / announcements\n7:15 David Mann\n~8:45 Tear-down\, cross the sidewalk to Yardhouse\n\n \nAttending and Parking: \nThis event will be in person at the REM5 STUDIOS new office in West End and the presentation will be streamed live at https://www.youtube.com/igdatc \nPark underground and take the central red elevator to ground level\, then cross the sidewalk. Postmortems\, live demos\, and talks on game design\, art\, marketing\, audio\, community\, social issues\, and more\, given by developers from the Twin Cities and all over the world. \nWe also stream live on youtube.com/igdatc. \n \nThis Month: Michael Tetzlaff (He/They)\nShedding Light on Global Illumination Techniques in UE5Unreal Engine 5 has a wide range of options for simulating global illumination — from the relatively new Lumen system to older legacy implementations like lightmaps\, reflection capture probes\, and screen space reflections. Unfortunately\, the complexity of having so many layers in one engine\, with documentation scattered across multiple pages (and sometimes inaccurate information on third-party sites) can make it less approachable for novice users. Incorrect configuration or combinations of settings can break lighting builds\, resulting in wasted development effort. This talk aims to demystify all these options\, diving into the technical aspects of how they work\, and discussing their tradeoffs along with compatibility restrictions. \nMichael Tetzlaff is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin – Stout with 6.5 years of experience teaching game design courses at the undergraduate level. Tetzlaff received a B.S. in Computer Science from Bethel University in St. Paul\, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota. Tetzlaff is the development lead for Kintsugi 3D\, an open-source software project to support heritage photogrammetry with improved color appearance accuracy. Research and creative interests include computer graphics and game design education and applications of computer graphics in cultural heritage. \nLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michael-tetzlaff-06282439/ \nGitHub: https://github.com/michaelt919 \nKintsugi 3D project: https://michaelt919.github.io/Kintsugi3DBuilder/ \n \nAnnouncements & Plug My Thing\nAt the beginning of our in-person meetings\, we like to put a call out for game trailers\, demo reels\, and other short game development related announcements. Please come 15min early or contact us (Discord is best) beforehand if you can! \n\nAgenda (approximate)\n\n6:30: Youtube stream opens\, meeting intro and monthly slides.\n\n\n7:00: Presentations.\nAfter: we head to a nearby restaurant to get food/drinks and socialize!\n\n\nOther Happenings\nJoin us on our Discord server! \nHelp us find interesting presenters\, use this easy form to let us know.
