Postmortems\, live demos\, and talks on game design\, art\, marketing\, audio\, community\, social issues\, and more\, given by developers from the Twin Cities and all over the world. \nWe also stream live on youtube.com/igdatc. \n \nThis Month: Andrew Williams (He/They)\nTranslating History to Videogames: Processes and Workflows \nHow do you develop games from historical material with a plausible degree of accuracy? In this presentation Art Director and Design Historian\, Dr. Andrew Williams discusses various strategies and workflows for creating historically-themed videogames using examples of his work. This presentation will cover the development of research pillars in pre-production\, gameplay design\, level design and approaches to environment art and asset creation. This talk is intended for all audiences and levels of experience. \nWorking at the intersection of game development and design history\, Andrew Williams is the Art Director for educational game developer immersionED as well as a Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Williams’ previous projects include co-Producer and lead developer for the historical videogame “Witness to the Revolution\,” game and narrative designer for the interactive exhibit “Play the Past” at the Minnesota History Center\, and author of the video game history textbook\, History of Digital Games: Developments in Art\, Design and Interaction. I’ll also discuss switching from Unity to Unreal Engine for VR development. \n \nSchedule: \n\n6:30 Social and setup\n7:00 Kickoff / announcements\n7:15 Matt\n~8:30 Tear-down\, cross the sidewalk to Yardhouse\n\nAttending: \nThis event will be in person at the REM5 STUDIOS new office in West End\, and live streamed on https://www.youtube.com/igdatc \nPark underground and take the central red elevator to ground level\, then cross the sidewalk. REM5 STUDIOS is across from Yardhouse. Map below. \n \nAbout MN VR and HCI: \nMN VR and HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) welcomes developers\, tinkerers and enthusiasts working with all variety of VR\, AR\, HCI\, hardware hacking\, creative coding and interactive art. Postmortems\, live demos\, and talks on game design\, art\, marketing\, audio\, community\, social issues\, and more\, given by developers from the Twin Cities and all over the world. \nWe also stream live on youtube.com/igdatc. \n \nThis Month: Trenton Greyoak (He/Him)\nMEGAGAMES: How to have fun with 200 friends! \nMegagames are a cross between board games and role-playing games with very large player counts (40-200). They are emergent\, creative\, social\, chaotic experiences. In the presentation\, we’ll dive deep into this unique genre and talk about design\, logistics\, and why megagames are the coolest thing ever. \nTrenton Greyoak is a game designer and programmer who lives in MN. In the ancient times\, he worked on MMOs (@Sony Online) but then went indie to have the power to make his own mistakes. When he’s not being distracted by megagames (his “hobby”) and occasional web/app dev contact work\, he pours hours into his own video game projects but struggles to finish anything especially \n \nAnnouncements & Plug My Thing\nAt the beginning of our in-person meetings\, we like to put a call out for game trailers\, demo reels\, and other short game development related announcements.
