In this presentation Art Director and Design Historian\, Dr. Andrew Williams discusses various strategies and workflows for creating historically-themed videogames using examples of his work. This presentation will cover the development of research pillars in pre-production\, gameplay design\, level design and approaches to environment art and asset creation. This talk is intended for all audiences and levels of experience. \nWorking at the intersection of game development and design history\, Andrew Williams is the Art Director for educational game developer immersionED as well as a Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Williams’ previous projects include co-Producer and lead developer for the historical videogame “Witness to the Revolution\,” game and narrative designer for the interactive exhibit “Play the Past” at the Minnesota History Center\, and author of the video game history textbook\, History of Digital Games: Developments in Art\, Design and Interaction. DESCRIPTION:MN VR and HCI monthly meeting for May 2025: Quest 3 MR For Reals\n\n\nQuest 3 MR For Reals – Zach Wendt \nQuest has steadily gained MR/AR features over the last year\, and now has nearly the full feature set of Apple Vision Pro / HoloLens. Members are working on projects with custom displays and lenses\, projection mapping\, mocap\, tiny computers\, servos and sensors\, interactive art and a wide variety of VR\, AR\, motion and computer vision applications. If you’ve only been to our parent group IGDATC meetings\, MN VR and HCI is a slightly different format: We aim for smaller group discussions and lots of specific details.
