This position will be part of the Enterprise Services team, which delivers a full suite of services to state agencies, boards, councils, and commissions, and many central services to local government partners.

Job Summary

As the Infrastructure Designer you will focus on Layer 1 infrastructure, specifically network wiring infrastructure including low voltage copper and fiber optical network design, configuration, installation, maintenance and developing operational process and procedures.  Responsibilities include copper and fiber design, installation, repair, construction management and network documentation.  This position provides assistance to critical State network voice, video and data transport services representing all State, County, public higher education, including life safety law enforcement and health/human services.

This position requires an employee to be onsite as needed with the ability to telework when not onsite.

    • Telework for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.
    • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:  

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of IT related experience that includes:

    • Expert knowledge of copper low voltage and fiber optic design and of troubleshooting of both.
    • Experience in auto-cad and Visio in order to create, view and modify vendor and customer network drawings.
    • Advanced LAN network experience including hardware and software.
    • Thorough knowledge of network system analysis and design methods.
    • A valid driver’s license is required in order to travel to customer locations.

A master’s degree in Information Technology or a related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR a related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR a related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

    • Ability to coordinate and direct the work effort of others.
    • Strong leadership ability.
    • Excellent oral (presentation) and written communications skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skill among staff and customers.

Additional Requirements

This position is required to travel approximately 50% of the time, a state vehicle is available for some travel or mileage reimbursement for personal vehicle use. Travel may be required throughout the state of Minnesota.

This position is based in St. Paul, Minnesota. This position will require the employee to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies.
