As a Junior Automation Engineer at MNIT and MDH, your role involves automating tasks related to Amazon Web Services (AWS). An example of the work you will be doing can be seen in this Video produced using your future co-workers. Your work will include provisioning services, managing infrastructure, and handling applications. MDH heavily relies on these services for critical day-to-day operations. Please note that there will be a few occasions in which deployments will occur after your normal scheduled hours. These generally will come with plenty of notice so you can discuss and confirm a temporary adjustment to your work schedule with your supervisor in order to avoid overtime. Your responsibility is to create efficient, secure, and minimally manual scripts for provisioning the department’s infrastructure. Come be a part of something bigger than yourself, something to be inspired by; come to work for Minnesota IT Services – MDH.

 

This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

  • Telework for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.
  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate these qualifications in their resume:

 

Position requires a minimum of two (2) years of experience in information technology.

 

Experience must include:

  • Cloud Certification in AWS
  • Experience with Linux/ administration
  • Ability to create clear and concise technical documentation to be consumed by colleagues.
  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for two (2) years of experience, OR an IT or related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year experience utilizing Cloud Services in AWS or Cloud certification in AWS, and an understanding of cloud shared responsibility and security models.
  • Active Directory administration experience
  • Experience working with operating systems, such as Microsoft, and knowledge of information technology frameworks.
  • Scripting, including batch file creation, command-line registry manipulation, and command-based configuration experience
  • Troubleshooting ability, including the ability to create and test hypotheses based on relative likelihood, and a willingness and ability to creatively consider all possible causes for a problem and test appropriately.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code technologies, like Ansible and/or AWS Cloudformation.
  • Communicating and training on technical issues to non-technical employees. Collaboration skills in working with technical and nontechnical employees in group efforts.
