This position will be part of the Enterprise Services team, which delivers a full suite of services to state agencies, boards, councils, and commissions, and many central services to local government partners.

Job Summary

The Mainframe Supervisor will supervise the Mainframe Services section within the Enterprise Service Delivery/IaaS Division. This includes z/OS, Mainframe Network, Mainframe Storage, Mainframe Automation, and eReports. The incumbent will provide operational direction within each of these areas while ensuring the appropriate processes and procedures are in place to provide reliable service to all customers. They will assist in determining the operating budget for the MNIT Mainframe group. Processes and procedures should include but are not limited to the following: IPL, patching schedules, monitoring, refresh cycles, automated metrics, hardware and software standards/exceptions, incident management and change management. All processes and procedures address mainframe hosting workload both within MNIT data centers and disaster recovery-based service offerings.

This position is currently eligible for full-time telework: 

  • Telework for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota. 

  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume: 

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of experience in mainframe technical support.

Experience must include:

  • Two (2) years of lead work or supervisory experience.
  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience contributing to a department operating budget.
  • Knowledge of IBM zSeries mainframe hardware.
  • Knowledge of IBM zOS operating system and related components.
  • Experience coordinating efforts to identify and resolve problems that impact major applications or infrastructure.
  • Experience managing changes to the processing environment.
  • Experience in dealing with vendors in the negotiation of software/hardware contracts.
  • Experience in managing customer relationships.
  • Ability to analyze problems in a logical manner and to isolate failing components.

This position is based in St. Paul, Minnesota. This position will require the employee to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies.
