Best Buy is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for Inventory Availability team.
As the Senior Engineering Manager – Inventory Availability , this leader will drive innovation around the systems in the Inventory Availability. These systems are key to our digital platform. This involves a mix of working with the agile product owner to understand desired behavior; documenting designs for socialization; decomposing work for execution; and implementing, testing, reviewing & deploying the work produced; assist team in enhancements to our system, refactoring, technical debt, and researching new technologies and frameworks; will join an agile team participating in stand-ups, sprint planning, design reviews and other typical agile ceremonies. The ideal candidate will have a passion to tackle problems involving scale and data complexity. This is an area of dynamic change for Best Buy, incorporating modern technology and analytics to create and support the best shopping experience for our customers.
This role is hybrid, which means you must be located within a drivable distance to one of our Best Buy corporate offices in Richfield MN, Atlanta GA, Seattle WA. You might be asked to come into the office up to 3 days per week.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead a team of talented engineers
- Helps to set project scope and requirements
- Design and build solutions with impact to across teams
- Keeps team focused on quality and regular releases
- Works with other managers to find creative solutions to customer issues
- Collaborate with product managers and UX professionals
- Participate in production support along with their team
- Active participant in planning, and performs code and architecture reviews
- Share knowledge with peers and direct reports to reduce knowledge silos, help engineers grow in their careers, and make the team better
Basic Requirements:
- 5 or more years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- 1 or more years managing and/or leading engineering teams (Must have lead technical teams and have appropriate applicable technical experience)
- 4 or more years of experience as software developer in standard web technologies.(Spring, Java, Groovy, REST services etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 7 or more years of relevant professional experience
- Experience with modern web technologies and frameworks (Spring, Java, Groovy, REST services etc.)
- Experience in agile development methodology – Scrum, Kanban and/or XP.
- Design and development of complex technical solutions that operate at scale
- Experience working with RDBMS, Cassandra (No SQL), message queues.
- Knowledge of and working experience with open-source software as well as networks, security, firewalls, load balancers, DNS, and other infrastructure components
- Proficiency with UNIX/Linux command line
- Experience in test driven development, continuous integration and deployment practices
- Experience with micro service development that produce/consume REST APIs
- Test automation (Selenium, Cucumber, etc.)
- Communication skills: with your team, with other teams, with product managers and leaders
- Experience with Cloud Computing platforms (e.g., Amazon AWS, Google Cloud Platform etc.)
