At Livefront, we help companies design and build world-class digital products that command attention and inspire joy. We’ve helped household names like Target, Samsung, General Mills, and Optum create experiences that have reached millions of people, and startups like HomeSpotter and Acclaim build entirely new businesses that challenge their industries’ status quo.
We’re looking for an outstanding Solutions Architect to join our team. This is a senior-level position located at our headquarters in Minneapolis.
This role is an intentional blend of API design, app architecture, code review, DevOps, release management, technical spikes, and client communication.
Who you are
You're a problem-solver with impeccable intuition. You have a long history of working with software technologies on various platforms, and when you confront something unfamiliar, you figure it out quickly and correctly. You're just as comfortable designing an architecture as you are doing the heavy lifting to implement it. You can skillfully articulate requirements to our internal team, and you can navigate complex technical discussions and decisions with our client partners. You love software craft, have a high standard for your work, and lead by example. You're not limited by software engineering dogma, and your engineering principles are mature, fluid, and influenced by your experience, your peers, and our industry's ever-changing landscape.

Why you should apply

    • You want to work with passionate and talented people who are always looking for ways to make things better.
    • You desire a work environment where respect, mutual trust, and egoless collaboration are paramount.
    • You want colleagues who take their work seriously but not themselves, and who know how to let loose and have a good time.
    • You like being part of a team that has a reputation for excellence and gives back to the community by educating, mentoring, and sponsoring.
    • You want to work on products and accounts that have outsized impact and reach.
    • You believe in sweating the details, giving a damn about quality, and taking pride in going the extra mile.

What you bring to the table

    • At least 7-10 years of software engineering experience, ideally in a consulting environment or as part of an in-house, cross-functional product team.
    • Experience building consumer-facing native mobile and web applications, with a fluent command of the native languages and core frameworks.
    • Demonstrated expertise architecting, building, maintaining, and scaling modern software on various platforms.
    • An ability to understand client expectations, the work the team has done and still has to do to meet those expectations, and the ability to motivate the team to successfully deliver.
    • Ability to design, setup, and maintain DevOps pipelines using various tools and techniques.
    • A knack for setting up reliable continuous integration and continuous deployment for complex projects.
    • A talent for communicating directly with clients, managing expectations, and explaining advanced technical concepts and their implications.
    • Ability to clearly articulate technical requirements to other developers.
    • An understanding of computer networking (e.g. VPNs, SSH, Wi-Fi) and have experience setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer networks.
    • A keen sense for security: you're able to think around corners and see potential risks.
    • Excellent communication skills and a strong ability to present and defend technical and architectural choices persuasively.
    • Work samples showcasing performant, neatly organized code with clean, well-implemented user interfaces.
    • Scripting expertise (Unix shell, Ruby, Perl, etc.).
    • Experience designing APIs and writing API specifications.
    • Renowned problem-solving skills.
    • Above-average discipline and personal organization skills.
    • A demonstrated hunger for personal and professional growth.
    • A self-evident love and care for the craft of software engineering.

Bonus points if you…

    • Have strong illustration chops as it relates to technical diagramming.
    • Speak, write, and/or educate publicly about technical topics.
    • Have publicly released your own personal, self-started products or apps.
    • Enjoy tinkering with emerging languages and platforms such as Go, Rust, Alexa, and/or Unity.
What to expect
When applying, please include a short note about yourself, a summary of your work experience, and a link to any public profiles you actively maintain (e.g. GitHub, LinkedIn, etc).
Our hiring process moves quickly and consists of several stages for candidates who capture our attention with their initial submission, sometimes including but not limited to a short preliminary phone interview, a series of video interviews, and a short take-home exercise which you'll have up to a week to complete.
Additional information
We go out of our way to evaluate all employees and job applicants equally based on merit, competence, and qualifications. We encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply and consider all qualified applicants.

We're looking for another seasoned front-end engineer to join our team.
We are a tight-knit, talented group of engineers and designers building custom mobile and web software for smart clients.  We have an incredible attention to detail and very high standards—if you want to join our team, you'll need to demonstrate that you do too.
Your primary role will be development of web applications using view technologies such as React, Vue, and Angular, build systems such as Webpack and Gulp, development workflows using Git and Docker, and testing frameworks like Jest, Mocha, Jasmine, and Protractor.  Strong CSS skills are required – beautiful, responsive design is standard operating procedure for us.
Your role will also include development of native iOS and Android apps using React Native.  You will be supported in native app development by Livefront's expert iOS and Android developers.
The ecosystem of frontend technology is vibrant and tumultuous.  We need someone who can navigate the chaos, learn new tools as necessary, look for support from teammates when needed, and deliver excellence regardless of the technologies involved.
Bonus if you can rock Swift, Kotlin, Ruby on Rails, or any other language.  You have an innate, built-in, almost scary penchant for programming.  You communicate clearly.  You have a proven track-record of self-motivation.  You're active in the tech community.  You never tire of Chipotle.
We are looking for someone who has 5+ years of front-end development experience.
For the right talent we offer high salaries, Aeron chairs, fancy gadgets, and other pleasantries.

Do you have at least five years' experience working in software development in industry, and at least some graduate level coursework in computing under your belt?

Do you have a strong desire to help shape a new powerful hands-on and close-to-industry approach to training and teaching software development and software engineering in today's modern landscape of opportunities and challenges?

Then please join us at Minnesota State (based in St. Paul) to help lead the rollout of our brand new work-based program in Software Engineering!

We have two positions currently available dedicated to launching our new undergraduate work-based program:

https://minnesotastate.peopleadmin.com/postings/2612

https://minnesotastate.peopleadmin.com/postings/2610

After completing two years of core studies either at Minnesota State University, Mankato or another institution, students compete for a position in our upper-division SE program. The upper division experience starts with a one-semester residential “Academy” that takes place in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area, during which students are prepared for four semesters of work in industry including mastering skills for self-directed learning and finding a co-op placement. Students then move on to four semesters of working at a paid co-op position in industry combined with virtual/distance study with our faculty. The work-based SE curriculum combines technical software engineering training with the professional skills development necessary to succeed in a STEM.
Responsibilities in this position include framing and providing guidance to the team that runs the residential “Academy” semester, coaching and supporting students’ SE co-op work, teaching core and elective upper-division SE topics courses, and advising SE students.
Course topics  include software engineering; project management; software quality, measurement and testing; software requirements; software architecture and design; leadership, metacognition, teamwork, written and oral communication, ethics, diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and professional and personal responsibility; software process, lifecycle, and sustainability. Courses are delivered both in person during the Academy and virtually during the four semesters of co-op.
The successful candidate will serve as the program leader, frame and guide the new SE program overall, mentor more junior faculty and other program team members, engage with industry partners to help create successful co-op experiences for SE students; participate in curriculum design, instruction, and evaluation; help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion; seek external funding; and eventually help lead the ABET accreditation process for the SE program.

Both positions will focus on launching and supporting our department’s new undergraduate work-based software engineering (SE) program.

After completing two years of core studies either at Minnesota State University, Mankato or another institution, students compete for a position in our upper-division SE program. The upper division experience starts with a one-semester residential “Academy” that takes place at St. Paul College, during which students are prepared for four semesters of work in industry including mastering skills for self-directed learning and finding a co-op placement. Students then move on to four semesters of working at a paid co-op position in industry combined with virtual/distance study with our faculty.

The work-based SE curriculum combines technical software engineering training with the professional skills development necessary to succeed in a STEM. Responsibilities in this position include serving as a key member of team that runs the residential “Academy” semester, coaching and supporting students’ SE co-op work, teaching core and elective upper-division SE topics courses, and advising SE students.

Course topics that SE faculty will teach include software engineering; project management; software quality, measurement and testing; software requirements; software architecture and design; leadership, metacognition, teamwork, written and oral communication, ethics, diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and professional and personal responsibility; software process, lifecycle, and sustainability. Courses are delivered both in person during the Academy and virtually during the four semesters of co-op.

The successful candidate will teach in both the Academy and co-op phases of the new SE program, engage with industry partners to help create successful co-op experiences for SE students; participate in curriculum design, instruction, and evaluation; help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion; seek external funding; and eventually contribute to the ABET accreditation process for the SE program.
