Be Part of the Minnestar Magic as a Board or Committee Member

We’re looking for new Board Members and Committee Members to join us in January 2026. [Applications open Monday, Oct 13]

Minnestar runs on community. Our volunteer leadership doen’t just sit on a board or committee, they shape the future of Minnesota’s tech scene. Together, we power some of the biggest and most inclusive tech gatherings in the state — including Minnedemo, Minnebar, and more.

And, we’re excited to announce — for the first time ever — that Minnestar is opening applications for Committee Members, alongside our search for new Board Members.

If you’re passionate about connection, innovation, and strengthening Minnesota’s technology ecosystem, we’d love to have you involved. Learn more below.

  • Come to at least 2 events a year (it won’t be hard, they’re fun).
  • Make a meaningful personal contribution and help us raise the funds to keep Minnestar thriving.

We’re currently looking to fill the following roles:

Board Member At-Large

Our wild card. Got something unique to bring to the table — expertise, perspective, networks, fresh energy? This flexible role is for leaders who don’t fit neatly into a box but know they can help Minnestar grow and thrive.

Ideal candidates might bring:

  • Deep connections in Minnesota’s technology, startup, or business community.
  • Experience in areas like HR/talent, product, marketing, governance, civic leadership.
  • A passion for equity and inclusion in tech.
  • Fresh ideas, energy, and a commitment to building community.

Committee Member Opportunities

Our committees are where the behind-the-scenes magic happens. If you’ve ever thought, “I want to do more to support this community,” but aren’t ready for board service? This is the place to jump in. Committee terms are 1 year (renewable), and members commit to:

  • A 1-hour monthly meeting
  • 3–5 additional hours/month supporting projects.
  • Showing up at events and pitching in where needed.

We’re currently exploring adding committee members with the following expertise:

  • Marketing → For the storytellers and brand-builders who love amplifying community voices.
  • Events → For the planners and doers who get energy from creating inclusive, high-impact gatherings.
  • Fundraising → For the connectors who can help open doors and grow resources.
  • Technology → For the builders and tinkerers who can advise on and help support the tools and platforms that keep us running.
  • Partnerships → For the bridge-builders who want to deepen our connections with other orgs and communities.
  • Volunteering → For the organizers who thrive on bringing people together and making sure every volunteer feels part of the magic.
