The MNIT DPS team provides technical support to an agency dedicated to prevention, preparedness, response, recovery, enforcement, and education. The team manages a large number of applications to serve 15 diverse public safety divisions located across Minnesota. 

Job Summary

As a Senior Systems Software Engineer at Minnesota IT Service (MNIT) you will be responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity and efficient operation of information systems for the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS). Your responsibilities will span the management, review, evaluation, implementation and maintenance of critical information technology operations for the Infrastructure Management team, so the fundamental technologies and systems run efficiently.

As the highest level of MNIT DPS support, you will set the standards, review design specifications and provide Tier III expertise to other engineers, particularly with regards to Microsoft Windows servers hosted in AWS and Azure, GCP services, disaster recovery planning, system life cycle maintenance, security enhancements, distributed file system utilization, and operational support.

This position requires an employee to be onsite at the work location one (1) day per week.

  • Telework for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St Paul, Minnesota.
  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of he following qualifications in their resume:

This position requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience with computer technologies in Microsoft Server, Cloud support, networking and internetworking protocols and operations.

Experience must include:

  • Server operating systems support (Microsoft Operating Systems)
  • Supporting Cloud platforms including AWS, Azure and GCP
  • Write/manage infrastructure as code.
  • Azure DevOps experience
  • Modern based authentication and troubleshooting experience.
  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • IIS Configuration
  • SSL Certificate management/replacement/automation using tools such as Win-Acme.
  • LAN access protocols (such as Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 and/or FDDI).
  • Server management components (such as BMC, SIM, ADDM, SNMP, DNS, DHCP, DCs, and CPU utilization).
  • LAN/MAN/WAN routing communication protocols including TCP/IP (IPv4, IPv6).
  • SAN/NAS storage solutions including ISCSI technology.
  • Automating tasks using PowerShell.
